Vincent Fairfax Fellowship Speaker Series - Ethics in the Boardroom
Media reports of corporate ethical failings are published so often they rarely make the leading news story of the day.

According to The Conversation, “investors value ethics and they place a premium on it. Thus, when something unethical comes to light, the company loses that premium and its share price drops…”. The same article reports share price can drop up to 9.5 percent in the month following bad publicity.

However, the article goes on to report companies with a tainted reputation often rebound. The public airing of dirty laundry forces a big clean-up of systems, standards and leadership.

What is the role of the board in this environment? Is it to set performance standards to avoid unethical practices? Or to direct the ‘clean up’ when the inevitable happens? How are Australian boards grappling with the challenges of ethical leadership?

AICD Chairman, Elizabeth Proust AO FAICD, will give her views on Ethics in the Boardroom and what this means for directors and senior leadership teams.
